01 Do Indians Need a Visa for Bulgaria ?

Most India who want to vacation in Bulgaria must first get a tourist visa. There are, however, a few cases that stand out.

You don't need a tourist visa if you already have a visa that lets you enter any Schengen Area Member State more than twice or a long-stay visa or resident pass that lets you live in any Schengen Area Member State.

02 The Common Visa Policy of the European Union and Bulgaria

As of January 1, 2007, the Republic of Bulgaria had met the Accession Treaty requirements and established the European Union's Common Visa Policy.

The Republic of Bulgaria is bound by and subject to the provisions of the Schengen acquis listed in Annex I to the Act about the conditions of accession of the Republic of Bulgaria and Romania.

The rest of the provisions are in effect as of the date that the Council decided Bulgaria could join the Schengen area.

The Republic of Bulgaria joined the Schengen area on January 1, 2007, and Romania did the same on January 1, 2007.

Article 4 of the Act that sets the membership rules for the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Romania makes this very clear.

Bulgaria started letting people with current Schengen visas travel without a visa on the day it joined the Schengen area on January 31, 2012.

Travelers with Schengen visas won't need a Bulgarian short-stay visa to enter and stay in the country for up to three months in any six months starting on the date of their first entry.

04Documents required when applying Bulgaria visa for Indians

The following are the documents required to apply for the Bulgaria visa for Indians :

  • Original passport (less than ten years old) with at least two blank pages and valid for travel for at least six months beyond the intended return date
  • Two recent passport-sized images (taken within the last six months) with a white background
  • A valid UAE Residence visa for at least three months after the date of departure from the country
  • An original letter of no objection from the applicant's employer, complete with the company seal and indicating the applicant's designation, the start date of employment, the monthly wage, and a statement that there are no objections
  • Transit visa insurance for your trip that covers repatriation and evacuation costs up to approximately 30,000 Euros
  • Original bank statements dating back three months
  • Confirmed hotel reservation
  • Valid Emirates ID
  • Confirmed the flight return ticket

If the documents are written in Arabic in any way, they need to be translated into English.

Minors must always travel with a parent or another adult unless they have a letter from a parent or other adult giving them leave to go alone.

05How to apply for Bulgaria visa for Indians
